A story of the curious antics of a ! stag comes from Wanganui:—This stag, ] said to be a sixtcen-pointcr, haunts the i Kawhatau district; it is quite harmless, though aggressive. The other" day a settler who was passing on horseback heard the thunder of hoofs behind him. On looking for the cause he saw the stag making for him at a whirlwind pace. Becoming alarmed, he galloped for the hush, but his horse was no match lor the pacer behind. Tha settler had now determined to make a tight for it, but the stag made no effort to try his antlers. Tie roared defiance, galloped away a short distance, returned and roared again. Probably it was sport to the stag. He repeated these manoeuvres several times, and at length, something else in the gully claiming"]™ attention, he disappeared from view, and the horseman proceeded on his journey unmolested. Other travellers are said to have been similarly treated by this denizen of the bush. A CrmiSTCHURCH NORSK CURED OF KIDNEY COMPLAINT BY DR. ■SHELDON'S GIN PILLS.
