THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT. By Cable—Press Association-—Copyright. London, June 24. The Prince of Wales welcomed President Poineare at Portsmouth. The King and members of the Cabinet met him at Victoria Station. Great crowds greeted the President with an ovation all along the route to the Palace. Many Admirals, . including Rear-Ad-miral Patey, welcomed the Prince of Wales to Portsmouth. RANQUETTED BY THE KING. London, June .24. "The 'banquet to President Poineare was lielil at Buckingham Palace. The King, in a speech, hoped that the relations between the two countries, whose aim was -peace, would continue unimpaired in intimacy and vitality. A MAGNIFICENT BANQUET. THE KING'S SPEECH. The tables wove decorated with the French colors, incJu'din? re-l roses, white orchids and blue delphinium. The Yeomen of the 'Guard formed a cordon around thu tables. The gold plate from Windsor was utilised. The King, speaking in French, referred to the advantages of intercourse over many centuries. The result had been » steady growth of a deep mutual respect and goodwill, a-nd the amicable agreement of 1904 had drawn the two nations together by a growing sense of unity of interest and identity of purpose. 'The chief of our common interests, he said, lay in close co-operation for peace. The King emphasised the inestimable advantage of a spirit of mutual confidence and frankness between France and Britain in dealing with the grave problems of the past month. M. Poineare, replying in French, thanked those present for the warm welcome. The Anglo-French friendship was deeply rooted, and the popular soul extolled the recent work of France and England in maintaining peace.
