CONSPIRACY TO MURDER.

Two young women, Clarice C'owell and Elizabeth Harry, were remanded in custody on a charge of conspiring to murder Mrs. King by placing strychnine in her tea.- The police evidence showed that Barry called on Mrs. King, representing herself to he a friend of her brother. Mrs. King asked her to have a cup of tea. and after making it left the room. On returning she sipped the tea, and finding it had a peculiar taste did not drink it. It was examined after Barry left and found to contain sullicient strychnine to kill ten people. When arrested Harry made a statement that she and C'owell conspired to poison Mrs. King, Cowell at first denied, but subsequently conlirmed Barry's statement. She added that Mrs. King had cruelly treated and ruined her, and she wished to get rid of Mrs. King.
