During his travels in the East, Hugard has procured some very costly costumes and effects, and it is said that in the second part, of the programme, where he presents Ling Sing Soo and his Chinese assistants in the celebrated Oriental act, "A night in a Chinese Palace," the stage is one blaze of Oriental grandeur and effect. Hugard is supported by a strong company. Prices 3s, 2s, and Is, and box plan will be as usual.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. There was a packed house at the Empire on Saturday evening w*en the week-end programme was screened for the first occasion. The principle item is a powerful Pasquali drama, a story of circus life entitled "From the Regions of Darkness," and it is unique in theme and intensely interesting throughout. This picture with supporting programme will be 'shown for the last time to-night. Commencing to-morrow,the management will introduce the greatest picture attraction ever secured for New Plymouth, a magnificent exclusive production , of "Queen Bess," with the world's most famous actress, Mme. Sarah Bernhardt, in the role of Queen Elizabeth. Every, one, young or old, has heard or read about the "Divine Sarah," but it has remained for the enterprise of the Empire Theatre management to make it possible for everyone to see this gifted lady in her greatest character of "Queen Bess." Mme. Bernhardt is a World's favorite. She is worshipped by all who have had the great pleasure of viewing her many characterisations. She has moved millions to smiles and tears, and her dramatic power in "Queen Bess" is little short of marvellous. The musical programme will be under the direction of the brilliant violinist, Mr. Gerald van Heck.

THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. The Royal Pictures will present a complete change of programme to-night, .when the attraction will be an intensely powerful Vitagraph 3000 feet production, "The Vengeance of Durand." This subject has been generally acclaimed as one of the strongest the Vitagraph Company has produced, and we all know that they have plenty of strong strings to their credit. Durand had said "Vengeance is mine," but the vengeanee he nurtured for another enters his own soul; The weapon which he sharpened with jealousy and hatred, and placed in his daughter's hand, has turned against himself. He is cut down in the fury of his wrath. Mr. Roger Lytton excells himself in the character of Durand the hard and unlovable, and places this character i on a level witli his powerful interpretation of Lorenzo, in "The Mils of God." There will be a special matinee to-mor-row afternoon, commencing at 2.30, when the programme will include, "The Vengeance of Durand."
