SHEEP DOG TRIALS.

A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION. The weather was much warmer for the second day's trial, the attendance was fair, and everything went off more smoothly. Speaking of the trials, the judge (Mr. W. B. Grant) said that the work was a great improvement on the previous day. In the second class, the placed dogs did very good work, and in the third class, right through, very fair performances were put in. Mr. Grant had also a good word to say for the stewards and officials who worked willingly and well. The thanks of thft Club were due to Mr. H. King (Mangorei), and Mr. }J. Joll, who kindly lent the sheep for the occasion. The sheep were particularly suited for the purpose of the trial, and there was not a single instance of any of the animals lying down—a most unusual record for a two days' trial. Thanks were also due to Mr. H. Okey, M.P., for accommodating the sheep, and also for donating two sheep for weight-guessing competition, to Mr. Cassidy for his valuable assistance in preparing the ground, as well as for the use of his property.
