OUR DREADNOUGES.

RETURN TO WELLINGTON. ! Per Press Association. [ Wellington, Wednesday. H.M.S. New Zealand was berthed at the King's Wharf to-day without the assistance of a pilot. There are 42 feet *f water at the wharf, and the feat is claimed to be impossible in any other port im the Dominion. The warship is drawing 28 feet. She is remaining here till Sunday, when she will leave for Wanganui. The warship will not be opea to visitors.

LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS. Although hot water and milk are to be supplied, to children visiting New Plymouth on Dreadnought Day, the little ones, it is as well to advise parents, are expected, to save confusion, to bring their own cups or pannikins.

A GIFT OF BUTTER. Our Waitara correspondent writes:— At a meeting of Directors of the Waitara Dairy Company held yeseterday, the matter of presenting the officers and men of H.M.S. New Zealand with a gift of 'butter was discussed, and it was decided that the Company should send along a box, provided other companies followed suit. It was not thought advisable to be the only one to do bo, as such a small thing as one box of butter being sent would seem ridiculous, but no..doubt now that a start has been made, all companies will do likewise, or at least a reasonable number, and probably before Tuesday next a ton or so will be available for presentation. The only consideration now would be if weather conditions prevented steamers going alongside, would the gift be taken on to Auckland free by the U.S.S. Company's boat? No doubt there would be no difficulty in this matter, and all handling the produce would do so free of charge.

CLOSING OF SCHOOLS. School Committees have been granted permission by the Education Board to use their, own judgment .with regard, to dosing their schools to enable children to make the trip, as the Board recognises that there are cases where schools will have to be closed three days, others two days, and other cases where one day wijl be sufficient.
