i Messrs E. Griffiths*' and Co.' are in reoeipt of the following market report ■from their London principals, Messrs .Mills and Sparrow, dated May 2, 1913: i Butter.—The weather has again been favorable for production in the United Kingdom and the Continent, and supplies are steadily increasing. There is' a plentiful growth of grass in this country, and buyers are naturally very cautious just now, thinking that the next few weeks most show a reduction in values. Australian: Arrivals this week comprise about 42,000 boxes per s.s. Argyllshire and 8000 boxes per Otranto, in all 50,000 boxes, quite a good lot for the time of year? in fact, it is more than the market can take at this time of the year .in one week, and it is a great pity that it was not a little more evenly distributed over the past month. All best grades have met with a fairly good sale, but it will be noticed that while salted has only suffered a slight reduction, the premium which unsalted.commnnded during the last few weeks has been reduced considerably. There is no doubt that best qualtities will be easily cleared, but there is a large quantity of secondary unsalted, for which there is very little demand.
New Zealand: There has, been no arrival this week, hut the s.s. Arawa, bringing aboat 16,000 boxes, is now due, and these should easily be taken up. Arrivals to date have been well cleared, and there are a good many 'bnvers who like to continue using New Zealand' as long as possible. Danish: The quotation this week was reduced 3 kroner. . The production is fairly heavy just now, and the quality is really not at its "best, being of mixed feed, so that buyers do riot care to take more than they actually want. Siberian: _ Arrivals are again fairly pood for the time of year, .totalling about 'II.OOO casks, but there is not nearly sufficient demand to absorb, this quantity. Although the butters are being offered at low rates there is a good deal unsold at the close of the market. ' Cheese.—There has been a slight improvement in the demand, and with the better weather which we are having trade should certainly continue to improve. White cheese, which seemed to be on the short side, made an extra Is this week, but there is far too much ' colored, and agents are hard pressed to
