THE APPOINTMENT A JUDGE.

'Last.- Night. A peculiar position lias'arisen in connection with the t, o't a judge for the, band con lest', t'o be held here this year. The tocifl committee recommended Mr. A. Wtt'U'e;- of Wiingattui, to the South Island Band Association for appointment, but not receiving a reply prior to its next -meeting,' the local committee forwarded a second recommendation in favor of.Mi\ iPer'cy Jones, bandmaster of the Geelong" Municipal Band. It was understood locally Umt' this recommendation wiulcj''cancel, 'that in favor of Mr. Wade. r \ Hbweyer, at a meeting of the local committee last night, a letter was received from Sir. •'Tenner, secretary of the South Island Association, stating- that at a meeting of the executive it was decided that he recommendation of Mr. Joins could not be agreed to. The executive had been advised that although Mr. Jones may be a successful conductor of bands, lie is too young for the position and too inexperienced in adjudicating to entrust him with the duties of judging A grade bands in so important a contest.
