The Anglican Synod unanimously approved a motion recording satisfaction at the successful inauguration of the present system of national defence, and the conviction that it will make for strengthening the national character by the lesson of self-discipline and selfsacrifice.
THE MOUNT LYELL MINE. Hobart, June 7.
The general manager of the Mount Lyell Company reports that the 1100 feet level is practically free from water, and the works are in good condition.
WHEAT HANDLING. Melbourne, June 7.
The interim report of the commission inquiring into the question of wheat handling, recommends bulk handling on the Canadian system, whereby it is estimated that one penny per bushel will be saved. The commissioners state that evidence showed that under current conditions despair was often indignantly expressed concerning the exactions of the present system. Farmers know they do not get a square deal along the line of the wheat's progress to the bakeries.
