AN ANOMALOUS POSITION. Per Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Waipawa Licensing Committee, the chairman, Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M., referring to a recent prosecution for supplying a Maori woman with liquor, warned the licensee of the serious consequences following any further detection. Inspector O'Donnovan pointed out that publicans were placed in an unenviable position in the matter. . While they had power to prevent prohibited persons entering licensed premises, they had no authority to act in a similar "manner as regards Maori women.
