In the Senate, during the naval debate, Senator Power asked how Canada would defend herself in the event of 200,000 Japanese landing in British Columbia. He said the possibility of fortifying the Pacific Coast was more than ever apparent. Altogether Canada was able to place in the field only 30,000 militia in the event of war. Senator Power claimed that the expenditure on the militia was not justified ly the results.
