THE OTAGO BRANCH. ; Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The thirty-seventh annual meeting of "the Otago branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute commenced tq-day. Mr. W. Service (president) was in the chair. Between GO and 70 members were ■present. It was resolved to reply to a letter from the Assistant-Inspector-General, regretting inability to comply with the Institute's request for copies of the new syllabus for consideration; that members understood that nothing definite was to he done about the syllabus ui\til the Educational Institute had had a chance of discussing it and expressing an opinion about it. A letter is also to be sent to the New Zealand Institute, and an at-, tempt made to secure copies of the syllabus. The chairman gave a brief address on "Our Duty as Individual Members of the Institute." He pointed out that the Institute was recognised by Parliament as the official mouthpiece of the Dominion. If the Institute was to have the maximum amount of available power, every teacher must be a member. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. T. Patterson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. Rodger, and Mr. W.Turner; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Phillips. It was resolved that in the event of a candidate failing in any subject of examination he should have returned to him, on payment of a small fee, the marked papers of those subjects in which he failed, with a criticism thereon.
