THE INSURANCE ACT. THE ATLANTIC CABLE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, June 4. In the House of Commons Mr. Masterman, in reply to a question, stated that only 20,500 men, who are their own employers, have become voluntary contributors under the Insurance Act, compared with the estimate of 829,000. Mr. Harcourt, replying to Major Archer Shee, declared that he did not propose to publish the correspondence relating to the suggested subsidiary conference concerning a State-owned Atlantic cable until the Commonwealth had replied to the despatch of February 7.
THE WANDSWORTH SEAT. Received 5, 10.45 p.m. London, June 5. Mr. Havelock Wilson will contest the Wandsworth election. Mr. Samuel, a brother of Sir Marcus Samuel, will be the Unionist candidate.
