THE LONGBURN ESTATE.
A SPIRITED SALE.

Palmerston North, Last Night.' A land sale that created more than usual interest was held in the Empire Hall, Palmerston North, to-day, when the celebrated Longburn estate, of the late E. J. Riddiford, was offered for sale by auction by Messrs. Abraham and Williams. The hall was packed by nearly a thousand persons. . The estate comprised 1051 acres, sub-divided into 44 farms, ranging in area from 18 to 121 acres, and also 23 quarter-acre town seclions adjoining the Longburn railway station.' Every Bection offered attracted the keenest possible competition, resulting in all being sold under the hammer. The farming areas realised prices ranging from £47 to £7O per acre, the average price being about £5,5 per acre. The sale can be described as one of the most successful ever held in the Dominion, and at its conclusion the auctioneers were warmly congratulated by tho vendors.
