HOCKEY.
LADIES' TOURNAMENT.
AX ENJOYABLE DAY'S PLAY,
The Taranaki Ladies' Hockey Association were not favored with the best of weather conditions for' their tournament yesterday, nevertheless there was a fair attendance at' the Recreation Sports Ground, and those who did attend were well repaid by witnessing some interesting contests. All players were keen and enthusiastic; indeed, the Men's Association might easily take an example from them. To exemplify the interest taken by the ladies in their hockey it may be mentioned that the tournament drew thirteen teamß, including Kaponga, Ngatimaru, Tikorangi, and Hawera, whilst the races also drew big fields, the contestants in all the events competing merely for honor and glory, so that a fund might be raised to send a Taranaki team to,the New Zealand . Championship Tournament. The arrangements, were perfect, the programme being got off to time without any undue bustle, which was in a large measure due to the capable organisation and control of the secretary, Miss E. Andrews. The starters in the races were Misses E. Andrews and Whitton, whilst the judges were Misses MoEwen and Arthur. The referees in' the various hockey matches were Messrs. Osborne, S. Paul, Reg. Sole and Rev. Robson. The results were as follow: HCJCKEY MATCHES. FIRST ROUND.
