KING'S BIRTHDAY.
LOCAL FIXTURES, There will be no dearth of amusements in New Plymouth to-morrow, and all should And attractions to suit their special tastes. The chief event, of course, is the annual Fire Brigade ball, to be held in the Theatre Eoyal. The other evening amusement is to be found at the Empire Picture Palace, where an exceptionally fine programme is to be screened. During the day, golf, hockey and football will be in full swing. Members of the New Plymouth Golf Club journey to Hawera by the mail train to play their annual match with the southern club. The ladies are playing a match with Inglewood on the Ngamotu links, play commencing at 10.30 a.m. There will also be competitions at the Tarahua links, while the Witiora links also will not be idle.
The Ladies' Hockey Association is holding a seven-aside tournament on the Recreation Sports Ground, for which twelve teams have entered.
The Rover Cycle Club are holding a road race to Waitara and back in tls afternoon, for which good entries have been received.
At the Western Park there should be football in plenty, with the New Plymouth and Stratford Banks and Law teams and representatives of the Technical College and local senior cadets, the former commencing at 2 p.m., and the latter at 3.15 p.m.
