CONFLAGRATION IN AUCKLAND.

LAIDLAW LEEDS' WAREHOUSE. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A firo broke out at 7 o'clock last night in the large five-storey warehouse of Laidlaw Leeds Company, in Fort street. The outbreak originated in a heap of rubbish at the bottom of tho lift well, and' the flames went straight up the well, breaking out again in the bedding stored on the top floor. The brigade was quickly on the scene, and soon had the fire on the bottom floor subdued, but the flames above gave the-firemen imieh wove difficulty. The fire was eventually subdued, but not until there had been considerable damage done on the top fioor, tiie roof being badly burned through. A great deal of damage was done to the stock by water. The total extent of the damage and the insurances are not available. The cause of the fire is not known.
