A COMPARISON OF ACCOUNTS. ' By Telegraph—-Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The statement of receipts and expenditure of the consolidated fund appears in the Gazette to-night. The following is a summary of the ordinary revenue account for the year ended March 111, 1913 (shillings and pence omitted):—Receipts: Balance at beginning of year £807,275, ordinary revenue £11,420*098, Territorial revenue £254,509, National endowment revenue £59,413, recoveries £248, total £12,541,450. Expenditure: Permanent appropriations £4,052,185, annual appropriation £7,029,852, transferred to Public Works fund £750,000, balance at end of the year £709,508. total £12,541,546. The following are the details of the items under the heading ''Ordinary Revenue" for the year 1912-1913, 1911-12 figures being in parenthesis for comparison:—Customs £3,407,538 (£3,279,012), stamps £1,052,340 ( £943,138), Post and Telegraphs £1,107,077 ( £1,080,803), land tax £728,630 (£647,015), income tax £462,993 ( £448,934), beer duty £124,222 ( £119,130), railways £3,9(58,349 ( £3,665,013), registration and other £93,929 (£108,495), marine £52,704 (£48,321), miscellaneous £301,339 (£371,867), totals £11,420,098 (£10,721,387). The following are details of annual appropriations: Legislative departments £35,517 (£31,028), Department of Finance £55,025 (£47,448), Post and Telegraph Department £1,000,772 ( £986,526), Working Railways Department £2,817,140 (£2,551,717), public buildings and maintenance of roads £117,703 (£88,745), Native Department £23,068 ( £20,724), Justice Department £404,310 ( .£379.308), Mines Department £29,947 (£24,843), Internal Affairs Department £314,599 (£437,726), Defence Department £505,207 (£401,870), Customs,' Marine and Harbors and Inspection of Machinery Departments £134,019 (£118,527), Department of Labor £29,177 (£25,243), Lands and Survey Department £231,245 (£234,500), Department of Agriculture, 'comnierce and Industries £178,904 (£172.. 956), Education Department £1,084,041 (£1,012,048), services not provided for £2506 (£19,932), totals £7,029 852 £6,453,750).
