ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
KILLED AT A RAILWAY' GROSSING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A married man named James Olliver, aged 55 years, was killed at a railway crossing just outside the borough boundary this afternoon. He was carrying a.sheet of iron on his head, and walked right in front of the out-hound train. His back was broken. SUICIDE BY SUFFOCATION. Auckland, Last Night. A carpenter named Henry Alexr. Fay, returning home from work in the evening, found his wife and an 18-months-old child, lying dead in the kitchen near a gas ring, indications pointing to suicide on the part of the mother. When ne left for work in the morning, botn wore in bed, and nothing was apparently wrong. He can give no cause for the occurrence. The doctor stated that they had' been dead about six hours. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Hawera,. Thursday. A child, six years of age, a daughter of Mr. Petersen, settler at Matapu, while returning from school on Wednesday afternoon was accidentally shot in the cheek. She was removed to a private hospital at Eltham, and is considered out of danger. It appears a man was shooting at a hare, and did not see the approach of the girl.
A SUICIDE. Wellington, Thursday. ' At the inquest on Frederick Lionel Armstrong, late manager of the Commercial Hotel, Pahiatua, a verdict of suicide.while in a despondent state was returned. Evidence showed that he had been drinking lately. He had a wife in London. The sum of £44 was found on the body. A FIREMAN'S SUICIDE. I Wellington, Thursday. Henry Daniels..a fireman on the Moana, committed suicide in his bunk this morning by cutting his throat. AN OLD MAN KILLED. Auckland, Thursday. ~ Charles Edward Bush, aged 80 years, was knocked down bv a cab at Newmarket on Saturday night, and died in the hospital to-day. , KILLED BY A TRAIN. , i • Tnvercargill.
