LONDON DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. are in receipt of the following market report from tlieir London principals, Messrs Mills iind Sparrow, dated London, April 11:
Butter.—The general trend of the market is for easier prices, and although on the •whole there has heen a shortage of choice goods, still there seems a general tendency all round for prices to come, to a somewhat lower basis. These lower rates are already having the effect of increasing the demand, and as there is now an excellent supply of butter to sell at Is and Is Id per lb retail, we are hoping that we shall be able to curtail the sale of margarine, which has had the field very much to itself for some long time past. Weather is cool and dull; pastures are looking exceedingly well, but the cold winds have sonfiwhat checked the growth, which a month ago was too forward for the time of year. Australian: This week's arrivals have met with a good demand, and although Continental prices have declined, there is very little change in Australian. Choice butters are short, and with the widenin" demand for under grades at the lower prices now ruling, stocks are kept in small dimensions. UnsalteA continues to make a considerable premium over salted.
New Zealand: The butters per s.s. Corinthic opened very fine indeed, and were very pleasing. We hear of 112s being taken for best goods in numerous directions, but price is below the value of the goods. The colonial arrivals this week are:— Australian: s.s. Marmora 15,000 boxes, s.s. Somerset 21,000 boxes; New Zealand: s.s. Corinthic 37,000 boxes. Danish: Copenhagen advices report prives again lower by 4 kroners (4s Sd). This description is now coming to a more reasonable basis of price, and we do not look for a further reduction for a few weeks. Siberian arirvals are steadily increasing, and with cool weather for transit the goods are arriving in fine order and giving satisfaction. The season in Siberia is in excellent shape, and a considerable increase of production is looked for.
French: This (Inscription is a little too dear fov the English trade, and supplies are very light. Cheese. —Canadian: Mnrket is quiet. Really fancy goods maintain their price, but anything below this standard is easier.
Now Zealand: Owing to a slight accumulation of stocks, this is easier nil round. This accumulation is no doubt caused I>y a large number of factories arriving more or less faulty during the last two or three months. There have been numerous cases of strong-flavored eheese. and as these have accumulated it has dragged down the market. We are exceedinglv pleased to report that the goods just landed per s.s. Corinthic are verv fine, and our experience is that thev are the best (hat have come to hand this season. Tf we get a shin or t."'o of due ou'ilitv lik" tins, the market will soon assume a healthier condition.
