AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE.
SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS! By Telegraph—Press Association. Whangarei, Last Night. Mr. Fraser, S.M., was engaged until a late hour last night and again to-day hearing a claim brought by James Kirkup, farmer, of Huntly, against Harold Iveane Clarke, dentist, Whangarei, on behalf of Annie Pringle, aged 18, postmistress at Ruapekapeka, for the maintenance of an illegitimate child, of which it was claimed Clarice was the father. The evidence of the girl Pringle was that while at defendant's dental surgery having her teeth attended to she was given a noxious drug which reduced liar to unconsciousness, during which time she | had been criminally assaulted by the defendant without her knowledge. ,Shemade no complaint until five months afterwards, when she discovered that alio was pregnant. Demands were made on her behalf for personal damages nnd expenses. The Magistrate, in giving judgment, said that lie declined to believe the story on which the claim for maintenance rested. Medical evidence convinced him that the evidence given by Miss Pringle could not be believed. He dismissed the case.
