WANG AN CI HOSPITAL BOARD. . By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Wednesday. Some time ago an Order in Council was issued giving the Wanganui Borough one extra member oil the Hospital Board, making one of the Rangitikei members retire. The members were unable to decide who was to retire, and at a meeting of the Board today they protested against amy business being done until the question of representation was satisfactorily settled; alleging that the Board was properly constituted. They also stated they were in communication with the authorities, asking for another member to be added to the Board. After an animated discussion the Board decided to adjourn for a fortnight to adjust matters.
ISSUING VALUELESS CHEQUES. , Invercargill, Last Night. ■: George Maxwell, with several aliases, was sentenced to three month's imprisonment for obtaining £2 18s from IJcnry Ernest Rout, by a valueless cheque. Prisoner purchased a sovereign case from the complainant, presenting a cheque for £4 3s. and received £2 18s ill change. He lias to answer similar charges in Dvmedin, t'hristchureh, Wellington, and Palmorston North.
THE BOTLEII LAW. Invercargill, Last Night. Jarvis and Fosbendsr, llaxmillera. New River, were charged that being the owners of a steam boiler that they neglected to exhibit in a conspicuous place a certificate supplied by the inspector of machinery in respect to the said boiler. Mr. A. M. Mac Donald. represented the defendants, who pleaded guilty. Sergeant Simpson said that cases of this nature gave the Department and the police a great deal of trouble. Mr. MacDonald submitted that the omission was an oversight. Jarvis generally attended to such matters, and at this period he was away in the North Island, and did not know that the certificate was granted, which was left at the pis£ office, while the owner was notified to tlint effect.
