LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

; TWO ESTATES ACQUIRED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Prime Minister stated to-day that the Government'had completed the purchase of two additional estates for closer settlement purposes. Tlie first is known, as the Lake Run, in the Top House district, Nelson. It comprises 2946 acres of freehold and 2T86 acres of Crown leasehold. 'This will give access to Crown lands in the Howane block, which are now being opened up for settlement. The' land is suitable for pastoral and agricultural purposes, and will be subdivided with portions of the Crown lands, this giving settlers a fair amount of open grass land on which to begin farming. The other estate comprises 3103 acres, near Fortification Hill, Wai►mahaka, Southland, purchased from Washbourne Bros. The land is suitable for mixed farming.
