POISONED CATTLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Tuesday. A settler at Ohaupo sprayed some blackberries in a paddock where he kept his stock, and some weeks later the stock was put in the paddock. Thirtyfive cattle, mostly heifers, sickened, and eleven died. TELEGRAPHIC DELAY. Wellington, Tuesday. Owing continuance of the bad weather the Government steamer Tutanekai has been unable to commence the work of repairing the cable in Cook Strait, and has temporarily given up the attempt. iUnder those circumstances the Telegraph Department advises the public that if they are anxious to get telegrams through expeditiously they should adopt the "urgent" code, otherwise their messages may be subject to delay. NEW TELEPHONE LINE. Wellington, Tuesday. A metallic trunk telephone wire from Gisborne through to Tokomaru and Tolaga Bay is now in course of construction.
