FIRES.
CONFLAGRATION AT EKETAHUNA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Eketaliuna, Monday. A fire in Main street at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday destroyed Turner & Co.'s butchers' shop and its contents. Mrs. Wolfe's stationery shop and the contents were badly damaged, as were also a shop occupied by Wall Kee, a Chinese fruiterer, and owned by A. H. Herbert, and an empty shop owned by F. C. Turner. The recently installed high pressure water supply was instrumental in checking the further spread of the fire. The insurances were as follows:—Mrs. Wolfe, stock and contents, £205; Turner & Co.'s machinery and fittings £2OO, buildings owned by F. C. Turner £515; Wall Kee's shop £250, all in the 1 London, Liverpool and Globe office. FIRE AT CARTERTON. Carterton, Monday. A fire on Sunday morning at 1.30 o'clock destroyed a building occupied by F. S. Savage, cabinetmaker, 11. IT. Armstrong, saddler, and Coleman Phillips, solicitor. The outbreak' is a mystery. The building was owned by the late W. Parker's estate, and was insured for £IOO in the Commercial Union office and £IOO in the North British office. Savage's stock- was covered by £550 in the South British office; he lost everything. Armstrong's stock was insured in the Queensland office for £IOO and in the Commercial Union office for £100; a good deal of his stock was saved. Phillips' office furniture was insured for £25.
