SENSATIONAL BURGLARIES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, May 19. Burglars blew up a safe iii Tattersail's Club containing a large sum of bookmakers' winnings on Saturday. The explosion aroused the inmates, and the robbers had to escape, without their booty. Received 20, 12.15 a.m. Sydney, May 1!). It transpires that the charge was not sufficient to open the door of the safe at .Tattersall's Club. It smashed the woodwork surrounding it, and damaged the furniture. The robbers opened -the cash register, but there was nothing inside. They solaced themselves with meat, bottles of whisky and cigars. A burglary occurred at the George Hotel, Pitt Street. A constable saw a man leaving. After a long chase he fired five shots from a revolver.and closing on him hurled the empty weapon and struck the refugee on the shoulder. The man staggered and was captured. The safe at the hotel contained £55 and jewellerv valued at £3O, which was taken. All was recovered. The money was strewn along the line of ■flight. Adelaide, May 10. Burglars visited the residence of Mr. Clem Hill, the cricketer, and removed a 3cwt safe from a passage within a few feet of where Hill and his wife were asleep. They took it outside and blew it open, securing jewellery valued at £SOO, as well as a number of his famous presentation trophies. There were apparently four men engaged. They cut all electric connections.
