THUGGERY.
ASSAULT IN WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. David Griffin, a laborer, who come 9 from Tokomaru Bay, staggered into a corporation yard this evening covered with blood, and complaining that lie had been set upon and grievously assaulted by two men on the reclaimed land at the rear of Te Aro station. Grillin told the police that his assailants put something over his mouth, and tried to rob him of a large sum of money he had in his pockets, but he managed to get away. He was not, however, able to give a clear account of the adventure. As the small bone of his ankle was broken and his face cut, he was taken to the hospital.
