ENTERTAINING THE SAILORS. By Telegraph—Tress Association. Christehurch, Last Night. Ahont 300 men from H.M.S. New Zealand took part in a motor drive from Christehurch to Rangiora to-day. About 1-20 ears, which were bedecked with Union Jacks and New Zealand ensigns, conveyed the men, who thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The Prime Minister and the Postmaster-General, accompanied the party. Sports were held at Rangiora, and were most enjoyable. The weather was fine, though cold. About a thousand people visited the ship to-day, and to-night the officers of the warship attended a ball given by the citizens, which was largely attended and was highly successful. To-morrow a party from the ship will he taken on a traiii excursion to Otarama. The Mayor of Dunedin has telegraphed the Mayor of Christehurch to the effect that the suggestion that Dunedin school children should travel to Christehurch to visit the New Zealand has been heartily taken up. Arrangements are being made to billet the youngsters, and already the town clerk has received a number of offers. A SENSIBLE SUGGESTION.

Dunedin, Last Night. A meeting, convened by the Mayor of Dunedin, and attended by the Education Board's chief inspector and all the headmasters of city and suburban schools, was held this afternoon to consider the question of sending a contingent of children to Lyttelton to visit the battleship New Zealand. It was decided that pupils in Standard VT. in all the. schools be invited to make the trip. There will be about 740 children, and of these about 100 wilj sta .V w 'th relatives or friends, leaving about 550 who will have to be provided for. About half of the pupils from the Christian Brothers' School will be accommodated by those interested in the similar institution in Christehurch. The childern will probably travel by special train on Monday. The Mayor has telegraphed to the Mayor of Christehurch expressing the thanks of the people of Dunedin for the kind invitation and for the hospitality offered.
