Last Sunday week Mr. Eraser, -Jovernment lighthouse expert, accompanied by three others, left Whangarei iri a launch for Mokohinau lighthouse. They were due back within five days, but up. to th:s .morning no tiding* have been, received from tliem. Mokohinau is not connected by telephone. ESCAPED PRISONER CAPTURED. ' Palmerston North, May 15. (.roves, one of the two escapees from lalincrston Gaol, was re-captured last night, after ten days' liberty. The gaoler, Gleeson, accompanied bv Detectives ■Quirk and M.cSweeney and Constable Thompson, effected his capture in • a house at Terrace End. Groves was found under the bed and gave no trouble,,. He was remanded till tomorrow. HATPINS AND TRAMCARS: The Wellington City Council to--night gave instructions for the draftfing of a-by-law prohibiting the use of unprotected hatpins in tranicars, public streets, or public places. The Council adopted estimates providing for a tramway expenditure totalling /:34,800 Of this £11.200 is for new cars. DAMAGED BY FLOODS. . j Wellington, Last Night;. The recent heavy rains caused considerable damage through the Hooding of the AVainui-Omata river at the waterworks. The city engineer states that! It will cost £7OO to repair the damage. The rainfall at Wainui on May 1 is described" as phenomenal. ■ j A MOTOR ACCIDENT CASE, j lnvercargill, Last Night.i Mr. King and Mrs. King, of the Blu&, proceeded against Thos. Stone for tye recovery of £2OO, being damages for injuria to plaintiffs and damage to a car in cmncetion with a motor collision- pn the Riverton road on Easter Monday. The Magistrate said that the plaintiffs were quite entitled to recover, and he gave judgment for .€l3O. In the case jof E. A. Nichol v. Stone, a claim for damages in. connection with injuries arising out of the King-Stone motor eollisjin. plaintiff being one of the occupants of Klng>/ car at the 1 time of the occurrence, judgment was given in favor of plaintiff lor £2O. A stay of execution was fluted, pending an appeal in both cases.
