ROUGH WEATHER AT GISBORNE.
LARGE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS HELD UP. SHIPPING SHELTERING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, May 13. The storm has raised a tremendous sea along the east coast. The Mokoia was unablo to work the port on Sunday night and proceeded to Napier. At 10 p.m. the gale abated, but thu sea is still very heavy. The failure to transfer passengers to the Mokoia last evening owing to the rough weather, resulted iir sevei ty passengers from Auckland to Gisburne being carried on to Napier and 50 intending passengers for the sou'ih being left behind. These southward-bound folk intended to take the Takapuna tonight, but as the sea had not; abated a great deal, it was decided not to attempt the passage of the channel, and the Takapuna will not now nail until Wednesday night. The over-carried passengers will be brought to Gisborne by the Monowai on Wednesday. A particularly heavy sea in- running, and the weather is eol'd and h'ting-, and heavy and squally at intervals.' The schooner Awanui; which was due here from the north on Saturday morning, is supposed to ue sheltering up the coast. It would be impossible foilier to make the port in the teeth of the southerly isquaii, and the Rosamond also is supposed to he sheltering. The weather had a marked effect on the wrecked steamer Star of Canada, which is now practically out of sight except for her broken masts and funnel.
