After a lengthy discussion of a motion condemning the compulsory clauses of the Defence Act, the Presbyterian As ; sembly adopted an amendment in favour of the cancellation of night drills and the abolition of the oath for compulsory trainees. BOARD OF TRADE IX SYDNEY. Sydney, May 14. A branch office of the British Board of Trade has been opened here. RICH NICKEL LODE DISCOVERED. > Hobart, May 14. A rich nickel lode has been discovered in the Zeehan district, and has been proved for a mile and a half. The full extent of the lode has only been partially sampled, but 47 samples .which were tested yielded 4 to 14 per cent. of nickel, and 4 to 0 per cent, of copper. BAD WEATHER. Sydney, May 14. j A strong, north-easterly gale andj heavy rain, with high seas, have prevailed since yesterday. The bad weather continues and shipping ig sheltering. WIRELESS STATION OPENED. Brisbane, May 14. The Geraldton wireless station was opened to-day, forming another link in the Australian chain.
