. DEPUTATIONS TO THE MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Chvistchurch, Friday. Mr. Herries to-dav was engaged in receiving deputations. He declined a request from superannuated railway servants for privileges 'in the way of free passes on the ground that no'money was available this year. Regarding a request that superannuation pay be continued to the widows' of deceased members, the Minister asked the deputation to submit definite proposals. Mr. Herries promised to consider a request from casual fitters at the workshops for payment at the general rate of lis per day, instead of the present reduced rate Regarding the shortage of trucks, Mr. Herries said that New Zealand had more trucks per mile than any Australian State. He believed there were plenty of trucks, but the method of distribut- | ing them needed attention.
