A party of the South Wa/.iristan Militia, when out searching for Colonel Harney's assailants, were fired on by six armed men for refusing to halt. A party of Niksankces, hearing the firing, fired a volley. Eventually the Militia routed the enemy, losing one Sepoy killed and three wounded. The enemy had three wounded; ALIEN EXCLUSION. May 7. The State Department has received intimation of China's intention to protest against the Californian Land Bill. NELSON'S LETTERS. London. May 7. The imports of Great Britain show an increase of £2,551,199, and exports £10,105,402; re-exports show a decrease of £25,338. BRITISH TRADE. London, May 7. The Times publishes four lately discovered letters from Lord Nelson to Lady Spencer dated from 1797 to 1799, this period belonging to that of his moral eclipse. KIDNAPPED! London, May 7. The Judge suggested the possibility of Mr. W. R. Lidderdale having been kidnapped. The case was adjourned for further inquiries regarding Miss Vining's yacht. A MILLIONAIRE'S DEATH. London, May .7. At the inquest on the body of Colonel Meeking, a millionaire, whose body was recently exhumed owing to suspicion that he had been poisoned, the verdict returned was that death was due to natural causes.
