Hon. A. L. Herdman left for Auckland by the Main Trunk line yesterday. While in Auckland Mr. Herdman will formally open the new Public Trußt Office, and will inspect the Auckland Mid New Plymouth prisons prior to his return to Wellington. During his visit to New Plymouth, it is understood that Mr. Herdman will be entertained by the local Law Society. Mr. E. Rodger, of Oamaru, has been appointed manager of the local branch. of the New Zealand Express Company in place of Mr. E. 0. Skelton, who haa. been transferred to Invercargill. Mr. Rodger is not unknown in New Plymouth, having previously relieved Mr. Skelton here while on holiday some four years ago. He will arrive here to-morrow and Mr. Skelton will leave for the South on Monday.
