Groniii was engaged driving a horse, which was attached to a truck, through a cutting on the railwav construction works, when he fell, and before he could roll clear of the truck it passed over him severely injuring m head and shoulders. A number of his ribs were broken, and it is a miracle that he was not killed outright He was brought to town and is now in the hospital. A SUDDEN DEATH.. Palmerston North, Last Night. A well-dressed man, about thirty-three years of age, with auburn hair, whose pockets contained documents bearing the name of W. Temperly and a railway ticket from Hawera to Hastings, sat down in the Westport Coal Company's yard, near Palmerston North Station this afternoon, and died. One of the employees went up and spoke to him, and found him dead. The cause was apparently heart disease. An inquest will be held to-morrow. FOUND DROWNED. . Invercargill, Last night. Patrick Kennclly, a miner, aged 73, and single, was discovered in the Mataura river on Sunday by Constable Henderson, of Lumsden. Kennelly, who lived in a hut about two miles from Athol, Lad been missing since Friday, and it is thought that he was drowned while attempting to ford the river. The body was removed to Garston, wTiere an inquest was held, and a verdict returned to the effect that deceased's death was caused by shock, while try. ing to cross the Mataura river.
