SOCIALISTS SENTENCED.

New York, May 5.

Another stage has been reached in the case against Samuel Gompers, president of the Federation of Labor, John Mitchell, vice-president, and Frank Mitchell, secretary, who on June 25 were sentenced for contempt of court in connection with a trial involving the labor question. The Court of Appeal sustained the conviction, but reduced the sentence on Gompers to thirty days. The others were fined £IOO, without imprisonment.
