DISTRICT NEWS.

URUTI. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of settlers was held at Mr. A. W. Bone's residence on April 2.5 to consider the best means of getting the Uruti road tunnel and deviation put through. Mr. Adam Miller was appointed to the chair. Mr. Millar proposed to raise a loan of £IOOO or £ISOO, and ask the Government to subsidise the same. This was agreed to. Then Mr. Millar proposed that the thirds of a certain area be pledged for the repayment of the loan. After a lot of discussion the motion was held over. It was decided to write to Mr. C. K. Wilson, M.P., and invite him to come in and view the work under consideration. The secretary (Mr. H. Larseu) was instructed to write and find out the amount of accrued thirds on the following sections: —Section 7, block (j; section 1, block 7; section 2, block 11; section 3, block 7; section 1, block 11. Nurse Kelly, our district nurse, is at present on her annual leave. She will resume duty on May 7. Mr. J. Smith, of Uruti, has donated £1 to the cottage hospital. Red-tape is responsible for the delay in starting the cottage for the nurse. The plans have to be approved of at headquarters in Wellington, and, as usual, that means a dreary wait. The Nursing Committee have now written-to the Minister f.or Public Health, asking that matters be hurried forward.

Peterson were elected for the ensuing year. The first of a series of euchre parties and dances was held on Friday night last, April 25th, when there was a fair attendance. The prizes were won by Miss M. Peterson (ladies'), a six bottle cruet, and Mr. C. Peterson (gent's) razor. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss G. Hihe.
