* TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") The Marlborough Racing Club's autumn meeting will be concluded to-day at Riverlands, the principal events being the President's Handicap, one mile and a distance, and the Telegraph Handicap, six furlongs. Sea Queen won the former event last year after a good race with Undecided, and Blue Lake romped home in the shorter race. I Taranaki sportsmen are anxiously awaiting weights for the Egmont winter meeting. Mr. Geo. Morse's adjustments are due on or about Friday next. While jumping at Wanganui on Tuesday morning, Antarctic crashed into the hencoop, and, bucking high to recover j himself touched Mother Earth with his 'nose. His rider, C. Packer, was uninsured, but the old 'chaser got a bad knocking about, and it is hardly likely that he will be fit to race at the Wanganui meeting this month. I Coromandel has been showing decided signs of lameness, and Albert Jackson has had to''ease the bay gelding in his ■ work. The trouble has been worse since J the horse won at Feilding, and his owner had to very reluctantly pass over the I nominations for the Wanganui meeting. .Coromandel will not be a starter at ! Hawer-a. J A Manawatu scribe reports that £OOO was recently offered and refused for the Advance horse Expect, who won at Hastings the other day. Ngatiruanui is said to be galloping well, and his prospects for the winter season bear a very rosy appearance. He * figures in flat events at Hawera and Wanganui, and these should just about fit him for—perhaps the Grand National! The dogs were barking Parky yesterday, and J. Conquest duly landed the mustard. Other horses that were "Avired" all over the place were Sea Queen and Merry Frank. Taranaki-owned horses figure fairly I well in the Great Northerns. In the Hurdles are Bercola, Cornelian, Sam Pan and Clemency; and in, the Steeple, Bis'marck, Paritutu and Bercola. In flat, races at the same gathering, Royal Arms, Sam Pan, Crown Pearl, The Dodger and Master Tapuhi are also engaged. 1 Slancy, who won races over big country in the south last season, is now ' trained by E. Pope at Ellerslie. ' Allure and Serenity jumped nicely at | Wanganui on Tuesday morning. The first-named is looking very fit.
