He was lunched at the Cana- ( dian Club, the Lieutenant-Governor and, Mayor being present. 'He made a stirring speech on defence, stating that New Zealand would place the question above party. Discussing the Empire defence of the Pacific, he asked whether Canada was going to stand by New Zealand and Australia in their endeavor to solve the problem. The question must be answered sooner or later.
