FALSE PRETENCES. Per Press Association.Gisborne, Monday. Harry Lord has been sentenced to two months' imprisonment for obtaiinng goods by false pretences, he stating that they were for his employer. STEAMER BUFFETED. Gisborne, Monday. The steamer Squall, from Auckland, /net with a severe buffeting off the East Coast yesterday. She'came into port with a heavy list,'the' cargo having shift-' ed. Several big rollers broke aboard, : washing the deck cargo about, and heavy rain set in, makings conditions unpleasant. ■ A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. Wellington, Monday. Robert Shields, who deliberately broke a shop window with the object of being sent to gaol and waited for the policeman to arrest him, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. NOT DEAD. Auckland, Monday. Alexander Glendinning, who was supposed to be identical with the man found drowned in the Auckland harbor, appeared to-day, alive and well.
