AUSTRALIAN NAVY.

A WARM EULOGY. THE CIRCLE OF THE PARISH PUMP. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, April 24. Admiral King-Hall, in an address to the Royal Society of St. George, congratulated Australia 011 the progress of her navy. The men entering had proved full of zeal, amenable to discipline and proud of the service. There was no lack of entries. Avoiding politics, the Admiral ventured on four remarks: "It is most improbable," he said, "that we shall be able to keep this vast country unless it is effectively occupied. Every mlui and woman should study world politics to some extent, and not live in the narrow circle of the parish pump. We should never allow the navy to he the shuttlecock of political parties, but should study the naval question." '"How," asked the Admiral, "do people here exist?" Merchandise to the value of £240,000,000 yearly is carried in ships, which must in war time be sure of safe carriage; otherwise your trade stops. You cannot live by taking in each others' washing."
