MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

CONTESTS IN NEW PLYMOUTH.

Yesterday nominations closed for the Mayoralty, twleve Borough Councillors and_ three representatives on the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and it is pleasing to state that there will be keen contats in each case. For the Mayoralty Mr. G. \V. Browne, the present Mayor, will bo opposed by Mr. J. S. S. Medley, who was his opponent last election.

There are fifteen candidates for the twelve seats on the Borough Council. Of the retiring Council, Messrs. W. Ambury, J. Buttimore, Jas. Clarke, ft. W. Hartnell, F. H. Jackson, Jas. Kibby, Jas. T. Mannix and J. E. Wilson are seeking reelection.

The three sitting representatives on the Taranalci Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, Messrs. IC. J. Bell ringer. G. W. Browne and Wm. Outfield, are being opposed by Mrs. E. Dockrill, Messrs. E. R. C. Gilmour and A. E. Watkins.

The elections will take place in the various polling booths as advertised on AVednesday next. As there seems some doubt about the method of vilting, it may be pointed out that the ward' system has now been abolished, and in voting for the Councillors the burgess must put a cross against those he desires to vote for, which may consist of any number from one to twelve.
