According to figures supplied by Mr. John Vale, Victoria's drinking bill for 1012 totalled £5,151,215, or £3 IDs Id per head of population, which is 2s (Jd per head higher than in 1011, and the highest since 11)01. He attributes the increase to the general prosperity and the long hours the publicans are allowed to keep open, compared with the hours of other trades.
