NORFOLK ISLAND ADMINISTRATION
Sydney, April 16.
Regarding Norfolk Island, the At-torney-General explains that Mr. Houston, Acting-Administrator, was not paid for his services, but occasionally received bonuses. He intimated that Sir Gerald Strickland did not wish him .to retain the position unless he received regular remuneration. The Government grants £I6OO yearly towards the expenses of the administration of the island, and is not disposed to increase the amount. Sir Gerald Strickland is prepared to assume ~all administrative duties, therefore Mr. Houston's resignation has been accepted. The Attorneyj General denied that there was any friction over the matter. . ' : ■;
THE PRICE OF MILK. Sydney, April 16.
The South Coast milk suppliers have decided to strike against the reduction of the price-'of milk from lid to 9d a gallon.
METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS.
Melbourne, April 16.
The Government Meteorologist is studying the results of Dr. Mawson's weather report's and' 'endeavoring to connect up the isobars (lines of equal barometric pressure) with those of Australia and New Zealand. The evidence is. insufficient yet to yield much information. It has disclosed one important point, that when Antarctic disturbances are travelling rapidly the isobars extend to a very high altitude. The records prove that Antarctic currents can travel directly to Australia and affect the weather.
