LEVIN'S RECEPTION,

i The starboard watch of H.M.S. New Zealand, under Lieut. Jones, came to Levin by special train yesterday, and departed at 3.13. They were welcomed by the Mayor and Mr. Robertson, M.P., entertained at luncheon by the Government and passed away three hours pleasantly in sports and games. The Maoris of the district gave powhiris, hakas and poi dances. A Maori team defeated the sailors at Rugby football. A white team played a drawn game witli the sailors under Association rules. First Lieut. Jones, who was in charge, was presented with a Maori mat and address of wel- ] come by leading Maoris.

CREW ENTERTAINED,

Wellington, Last Night. Four hundred men from the New Zealand were entertained at lunechon at the Town Hall to-day. the function being most successful. There was much enthusiasm in the shape of cheering and patriotic songs, foil owed by speeches. The men afterwards marched to Newtown Park, where sports were held during the afternoon.

A DAY OUT.

Wellington, Last Night. About 350 men from H.M.S. New Zealand and Pyramus had a day out in Wellington to-day. Landing at the ferry wharf they marched to the Town Hall, the route being lined by crowds of people. The procession was headed by detachments of men with field guns and the band of the New Zealand. At the Town Hall the men were entertained at luncheon, speeches of welcome being made by the Mayor (Mr. McLaren) and Mr. Fletcher (chairman of the Harbor Board). Captain Blount briefly returned thanks. After the luncheon, the men formed into a procession again and marched to Newtown Park. The streets were thronged with people, and a very large crowd at the Park watched the men going through the sports programme and interesting evolutions with the field guns.

A party of Maoris gave the sailors a warm welcome in native style as they arrived in the Park.
