ANNUAL MEETING LADIES' ASSOCIATION.
At the adjourned annual meeting of the Taranaki Ladies' Hockey Association on Saturday, the balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £lO 18s lOd. The annual report stated: "With regard to the Shield matches played during the season, in the northern division the Reform Club proved the best team, and in the southern division rte Kaponga Club, the latter winning the Shield in the playoff. Our representatives did not exactly cover themselves with glory, but in a team composed mainly of young and therefore inexperienced players that could hardly be expected, and at all events we have the satisfaction of knowing that they played a sporting game throughout the tournament. It is to be hoped that the proposal re Saturday half-holiday will be adopted throughout the province, as that would undoubtedly give a great impetus to hockey in Taranaki. With reference to delegates, most of our affiliated clubs send a lady to represent them, and I wo»*'<l suggest that other clubs should adopt the same course."
Speaking to the report, Miss Arthur (Whakatika Club) said that great credit was due to the committee for their careful fostering of hockey throughout the province, a care which bad resulted in a far more active interest being taken in the Association than had formerly been evinced.
Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. C. K. Wilson, M.P.; president, Mr. George Tabor; vice-presidents, the presidents of affiliated clubs; secretary and treasurer, Miss Elsie Andrews (re-elected).
The meeting resolved that Miss Lye and the secretary should ant as a fixture committee and" that Shield matches should begin about the middle of May. A by-law was also drawn up to the effect that, except in the case of a severe storm, no team shall be allowed to postpone a match from the date decided by the fixture committee.
Tt was decided to hold a ladies' hockey tournament (seven-a-side) in New Plymouth on the King's Birthday.
