WELLINGTON RACING CLUIS.

The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club have decided to increase the stakes offered at the winter meeting by £4OO. They have also resolved to restore the St. Leger Stakes ou the autumn programme.

A meeting of the Taranaki Metropolitan Committee was held last night, there being present:—Messrs. Ellis, Orbell, Webster, Standish, Weston, Chancy, Jilundell and King;. The Saturday Hockey Club was granted the use of the club's grounds. Accounts amounting to £67 3s were passed for payment.
In the matter of enquiry into the ownership and training of the mare Piriwai, it was decided to disqualify Piriwai for the Stewards' Handicap, run on February 12, at the club's autumn meeting, in which race she ran second. The second money was awarded to Simple Sam, who ran third.
The special sub-committee set up to consider the question, recommended the inclusion of a weight-for-age race in the programme. The recommendation was approved, and the conditions of the race will be decided later.
The committee decided to meet at an early date to consider further improvements to the course.
DISTRICT COMMITTEE,
After the meeting of the Metropolitan Committee the District Committee met, the same members being present, with the addition of Messrs. R. H. Nolan and A. W. Budge. The adjourned enquiry into the ownership and training of the mare Piriwai was continued, and after consideration the committee decided to disqualify E. A. Laurent and the mare Piriwai for five years and B. H. Laurent for three years, on the ground of fraudulent practices.
The suspension of W. 11. Copestake's jockey's license, imposed by the Opunake Club, was approved. The Hon. 0. Samuel, M.L.C., and Mr. F, Watson were elected representatives to the Racing Conference at meetings to be held during the coming season. i °
Who would not own a racehorse? At a sale of Mr. D. Buick's horses at Palrnerston the other day, Taonui was sold for 8 guineas, Gold Battery for 31 guineas, and Vibration for 41 guineas. There was no bid for Rangiatua or Aberbrothock.
