ASSESSMENT COURT.

YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS. The Assessment Court resumed its sittings yesterday, Mr. A. Crooke, S.M. presiding. The case of Mr. Chew Cliong was first adjudicated upon. As a result of a con ference with Mr. Mills, Mr. A. H. John stone, wjio appeared for the objection said the following .compromises liac been" arranged:—Section 1514, origina valuation £26, reduced by consent t( {22; 1541', objection withdrawn; 1418 pevon street, original valuation £OS, re duced bv consent to £55; 1470, Cour tenay street, original valuation £3l re duceid by consent to £2O; 727, Bullei street, objection withdrawn. Other cases were: Ellen Grey £OO, re duced to £45; J ,H. Quilliam, property situated at the corner of Gill and Eliostreets, £B9, reduced to £72; Rev; S. S Osborne, property situated in Gilber street, £sl, reduced to £45; George Ban half, acre of land, with three cottages in, reduced by consent to £SO; F. C. J Bellringer, property in Devon street, £SO reduced to £4l; James David Sole, prop erty situated at Fitzroy, £SO, reduced t< £7 on account mainly of a clerical er ror; David Sole, property situated a Westown, £lB, reduced to £l4. A number of other cases were adjourn ed after -a partial hearing, in order ti pnable Mr. Crooke to visit the proper ties concerned. The Court will resume its sittings tliii morning.
