| From Onr Resident Reporter. Olliee: Xe.\t l.onn & Mercantile Agency Co. Telephone 113. PETROLEUM HEREABOUTS .Mr. Frederowich, manager of the company which ;s to commence boring for nil in this district, was at lluiroli on i Saturday, accompanied by Mr. Don Watson. Hie site of the bore has been definitely selected, and preliminary work is in hand i'or the erection of the derrick and the necessary buildings. Interesting stratum tests have been made, and, although Mr. Frederowich is not a man U) talk much, it is evident that he lias a good opinion of the field. The machinery should arrive at Xew Plymouth in a few days now, and it is hoped to make a start iu .Imie with the actual boring. It is understood that the well will he bored for 14-inch casing at the start, and that the company will be prepared to sink 4(100 feet, or even more. THE MOUNTAIN HOUSE Air. R, McK. Morison, chairman *of the East Egmont Mountain House Committee, and perhaps the onlv active member of it, visited the Stratford House recently, and found everything in fair order. The door had been left unlocked, and the last party of visitors did not bother to "wash up"; hence the place looked untidy. The track was 111 splendid motoring order right up to the house. Air. Alorison is in hopes of securing a permanent caretaker soon, and says a first-class man te thinking of taking up the post. With the improved road facilities, and a good man hi charge, there is no doubt that the Stratford Mountain House will regain and enhance its old-time'popular-ity.
STRAY PARAGRAPH Borough Council to-night. School Committee to-morrow night. Coif Club to-night. Tin. still ionmustcv nt Stratford, Mr. -J. B. Campbell. conversing with a Notts reporter, said that no arrangements had .vet. been made to definitely run a special train from here to Wellington in connection with the visit of HALS. New Zealand. The opinion is freely expressed that, such a train would hardly be overcrowded. for the children would he tired [ out. anil would find accommodation difj ficult to obtain, unless the school committees look the matter up. This would ! be. a tall order, for there are so many j country districts draining into Wellin l *- j ton. • . ° j At the adjourned meeting of creditors in Derby Bros.' estate, it was decided | that Me.ssrs. Boon and Harkncss act in j conjunction with the D.O.A. in valuing] the securities hold by Mr. J. McCluggage > over the bankrupts''assets, consisting of sawmilling plant and timber rights, and if as a result of the valuation they consider that the transfer of the securities be completed in Mr. McCluggage's favor the D.O.A. he authorised to 'take the necessary steps. Mr. Laurence, of Dunedin. intends practising his profession as a solicitor in Stratford, and will probably be located in York Chambers.
THE 1 DREADNOUGHT." 1 here -is considerable disappointment in some quarters concerning the visit of IJ..U.S. X,e\v Zealand, hut there is consolation "in the. fact that the '•Dreadnought" grocery arid provision store is still with us. The proprietor hears the | same cognomen as the British hero who | walloped the Spanish Armada; and there I is no reason at all why you should not inspect and purchase some nf the dainty delicacies listed in an advertisement on this page.
