President Wilson hopes that the Californian Bill prohibiting alien ownership of real property will not prove objectionable to the Japanese Government. He feels that it is impossible to interfere with the State's action, and points out that the Japanese laws prohibited Americans owning land in Japan; consequently Japan cannot properly protest. The Japanese Ambassador said that he fully understood California's rights. ] There is a likelihood of an amicable setc tlement.
